Subject: What is happening in Balochistan?

Respected Sir,

Asalamo Alykum,

Sir, what exactly is happening in Balochistan? Are we all set to part with Balochistan like we parted with East Pakistan? And then Sindh will follow?

For a lifetime we have been hearing stories that the Balochi people are turning rebellious because they are being cheated of their natural resources and fair share of development. Then we heard that Indian and other foreign agencies are fanning anti-Pakistan sentiments in Balochistan. And now masses are being massacred in the name of sectarianism.

Once again, what exactly is happening in Balochistan?

The preliminary question stands; for what good reason have the Balochis been kept deprived? Resentment and rebellion are natural consequences of it. Indian or any other agency can only raise anti-patriotic sentiments amongst a people if they have a factual resentment to exploit. We ourselves have provided them that root cause. And now, the massacres, being a human catastrophe in itself, are providing more grounds of total breakdown. The Baloch ‘freedom-fighters’ want the army out of Balochistan, while the targeted community want the army to take over Balochistan. It’s a mess.

Who is doing this massacre? Is it really sectarian violence? Or is it the foreign agencies doing it? Or is it being allowed to ensure that the army’s presence remains ‘required’ in Balochistan?

Whatever the truth is, it is downright cruel. It is cruel to play with human lives to set some religious, social or political order.

One could come up with numerous illuminating Quranic verses and Ahadith on the sanctity of life, fair play and religious tolerance, but the crude issue at hand calls for mere common sense to know that blasting away masses simply because they belong to a different religious ideology is the height of unreligiousness. It is hard to believe that any religious group would endorse or promote this approach.

However, let us believe that some religious group is doing so, as claimed by some among the authorities. Then, are our authorities so helpless that they are able to name this group, know its location and yet are not able to disfunction it? Our authorities cracked down on the sincere, die-hard Mujahideen of the Afghan Jihad era, loading them into containers and shipping them off to America, for some controversial event that happened in America, and yet they are unable to crackdown on groups fanning sectarianism within our own country?

Why? Is it then true that our authorities want to keep religious outfits at hand to make use of whenever needed for defence? Are they scapegoats? Is it a very sorry situation indeed. It is a story of selfishness, exploitation and misdirection.

The solution to this complex problem is really very simple. Firstly, give the Balochis their due rights in terms of natural resources, funds and development. It is said that the development budget of the entire province of Balochistan is equal to the development budget of the capital city Islamabad alone! It is very unfair, indeed. Islamabad could do with a few less flyovers and Balochistan with a few more simple roads. Add to that health, education, industry, infrastructure, entertainment and other developments.

Secondly, cleanup Pakistan of all foreign agents. They have been allowed into Pakistan by our own authorities under foreign pressure and our own confused motives. We are getting dollars in lieu, some military equipment and a thought-up defence against India. What are we intending to defend against India? Pakistan? Will there be any Pakistan left to defend by the contorted line-of-action we are following? As per the media circulation of a person named Syed Jamaluddin (www.dividepakistan.blogspot.com), Pakistan is on the verge of a break-up within the next two years and according to him, even the army knows this. I do not know the political standing of this person, or how authentic his reports are, but surely the premonition is disastrous, if it happens.

Thirdly, redefine our direction, orders and loyalties. We should have kept a hotline with Allah Almighty, His soldiers and His friends, and not some foreign country with its own vested interests. Praise be to the character, loyalty and bravery of the Taliban, who despite being beaten out by our own authorities upon the American instructions, wrote a letter to the Chief of Army Pakistan in 2008 when Pakistan was under threat of war from India after the Mumbai Attacks, saying ‘We, the Taliban, shall fight shoulder to shoulder with the Pakistan army incase India attacks.’ Why does Pakistan keep such a loyal force at bay, and waits for American ships to arrive for help, which never came in history and thus proved their disloyalty? As Allama Iqbal puts it,

Qaum Mazhab sae hae, Mazhab jo nahi, thum bhi nahi
Jazb-e-baham jo nahi, Mehfil-e-Anjum bhi nahi

Meaning: The galaxy of stars is alive and holding its high positions due to the gravitational forces of the universe. If this gravitational force ceases to exist, the entire galaxy of stars will collapse. Similarly, the core force behind the glory of the Muslim nation is Islam. If Islam is extinguished from our ideology, life and outlook, we will collapse as a nation; which is exactly what has happened.

We are still a nation who loves our army for their noble vocation, but it becomes difficult to do so when the orientation of the army shifts away from Allah Almighty and Islam towards gods of the Earth and consequently, gross mistakes are made, like when a compass is read wrong during travel. We must keep it in mind that a Muslim soldier is a Ghazi or a Shaheed only if he is warring to raise the flag of Islam. Any other flag stags him to a state of Ignorance, uselessness and an unworthy end.

‘He is not one of us who proclaims the cause of tribal partisanship; and he is not one of us who dies for the sake of tribal partisanship’. [Sunan Abu Daud]

Well, what are we going to do about Balochistan? Are we going to save it or are we going to continue blindly on the path of definite dismemberment of Pakistan and lose an important foothold, Pakistan, the only nuclear strength of the Muslim nation? Poor Muslims, they celebrated worldwide and congratulated each other when Pakistan became a nuclear strength in 1998, thinking and hoping that we will come to their defence too. Little did they know that strength without Faith is like a bow without an arrow. Wsalam.

Celebrating Valentine's Day is So Uncool

Subject: Celebrating Valentine’s Day is So Uncool

Respected Sir,

Asalamo Alykum,

Sir, have we no identity, no ideology and no ethics of our own?

Why should we celebrate Valentine’s Day which has its roots neither in our culture and nor in our religion? Are we so vacant intellectually, emotionally and spiritually that we have to poke around into other people’s culture and history and pick out vague myths to celebrate whose authenticity itself is at question mark?

There are three myths uncertainly associated with the origin of Valentine’s Day. First, a Saint struggled against the ban of matrimony for soldiers by the Roman Emperor of the third century. Second, it was an attempt to ‘christianize’ a pagan, Roman fertility and coupling festival by the name of Lupercalia. Thirdly, it was believed by the English and the French that February was the beginning of the mating season which added strength to February, the fourteenth. Nevertheless, it was around the middle-ages that February 14th formally became associated with ‘love’ and picked up the trend of being celebrated.

All these traditions wipe out the weak justification arguments that Valentine’s Day is simply about expressing love, love for anybody, be they parents, children or friends. No, it’s not the case. Valentine’s Day is definitely about romantic love.

Well, for the decent mind, romantic love is definitely a worthy emotion but in the cloak of privacy. It does not need to be flaunted on TV channels, radio programs and roadsides. If I love somebody, rest assured I have enough personal communication channels today to communicate it to that person without the whole world being made an audience to it.

Further, the expression for such a love is recommended for married couples and not unmarried individuals. Or are we all set to make Zina a cool thing to do?

Last but not the least, are we heading towards a ‘free’ society where it is increasingly embarrassing to even walk down to the grocery store for one would see couples in romantic entangles on the street benches?

“Those who love to spread vulgarity among the believers will have a painful punishment in this life and in the Hereafter. Allah knows and you do not know.” [The Holy Quran, Surah Al-Noor, Verse 19]

Or is it, in fact, all about economics? With the onset of February, the advertizing agencies get new ads to produce, the flower-chocolate-gift shops get more business and the media has a new mantra to play?

“Shaitan threatens you with poverty and prompts you to commit what is indecent, while Allah promises you His forgiveness and bounties, and Allah has boundless knowledge.” [The Holy Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 268]

Allah Almighty has put you in a position of power and, with due respect, you shall definitely be questioned about how you utilized this position of power; to uphold Islamic values or to demolish them? Please, discourage all Valentine’s Day related programs, advertisements and campaigns. Wsalam.

Shahzeb Murder: Block the Misuse of Deeat Law

“In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful”

Open Letter
To CJ Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry

6th February 6, 2013 – 24th Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1434 H

Subject: Shahzeb Murder: Block the Misuse of Deeat Law

Respected Sir,

Asalamo Alykum. May Allah Almighty bless you for taking sue motto action upon the murder of Shahzeb Khan of Karachi by Shahrukh Jatoi and acquaintances. It was a great job to get back Shahrukh Jatoi from Dubai to Pakistan. Well done.

However, there is this rumor floating now that the Jatoi family have forced Shahzeb Khan’s family to concede to a Deeat settlement for Shahzeb’s murder. They have forced them by threatening the lives of the two sisters of Shahzeb Khan.

I am sure you must be knowing this, yet I wish to bring to your attention that a Deeat settlement is not legally valid under pressure of any kind. And in the prevailing security environment of Pakistan, especially Karachi, Shahzeb Khan’s family may not be able to express the threat and black-mailing daggered at them by the Jatoi family for fear of it actually happening.

I also wish to remind you of an episode heard from the Islamic history, that once during the great Caliph Umar RA’s time, the Muslim nation faced a severe tide of famine. During this period, Syedna Umar RA suspended the stated Islamic punishment for theft, that is, to cut off the hand, in view of the dire circumstances and possible consequences.

I plea to the Supreme Court to take up these two points with renown, practical and trusted Islamic Jurisprudence Institutes, like Lal Masjid, Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband and/or Al-Azhar University, and call for the temporary suspension of the Islamic Deeat Law under the current circumstances of jungle’s rule and lawlessness and its consequent misuse. If this misuse is not checked immediately, it will set a very bad precedent for criminals with a rich background to kill at the drop of a hat and then ransom the much craved justice.

Sir, please, the nation is already bleeding with the freedom escorting of Raymond Davis by some of our authorities. The blood of Faizan, Faheem, Ubaid-ur-Rahman is still fresh in our hearts. Let not their deaths be in vain. Let not Shazeb Khan’s death be in vain. Please, block the misuse of the Deeat law. It is due unto us for the salvation of humanity.

"O men of understanding! There is security of life for you in the law of retaliation, so that you may learn self-restraint.” [The Holy Quran, (2) Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 179]

Please hang the culprits of Shahzeb Khan in public so that they may become an exemplary lesson for all the useless, hot bloods of our society.

Let Kashmir be an Independant State

“In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful”

Open Letter
To, The Political Parties of Pakistan

01 February, 2013 – 19 Rabi-ul-Awwal, 1434

Subject: Let Kashmir be an Independent State

Respected Leadership,

Asalamo Alykum. It has been sixty-six years to the independence of Pakistan and still there is no solution to the Kashmir issue. India cannot imagine letting go Kashmir and neither can Pakistan. The ones to suffer are the Kashmiris, who live in constant fear, instability and persecution.

Why cannot Kashmir become an independent state comprising of the Indian-administered Kashmir and the Pakistani-administered Kashmir?

Pakistan has not much to lose in this solution because, by Islam, all land under the Muslim rule is one single empire. It does not matter if it is punctuated by mountains, rivers or another country. The ‘country nationalism’ introduced to the Muslim nation after the First World War was a foreign idea aimed at breaking the Muslim strength for good. It is an absurd idea. We are humans, not animals. We define our identity by ideology and not geography, and hence all Muslims are one nation. If the Arabs still call a non-Arab ghareeb and yateem, it is their ignorance and error. How can a human being have a different mindset just because s/he was living on the other side of the Pak-Iran border or any other Muslim-to-Muslim border?

‘He is not one of us who proclaims the cause of tribal partisanship; and he is not one of us who dies for the sake of tribal partisanship’. [Sunan Abu Daud]

The East and West Pakistan arrangement failed due to the insincerity and injustice of our ruling elite, and a proof of that is the political situation of Balochistan, Sindh and Southern Punjab today, which are not separated by any distance, yet they are brimming with separatist nationalist movements. It was not the distance that caused the break-up in 1971 but political selfishness and prejudice.

If we give-in a little and make a move for an independent Kashmir by letting go of Pakistani-administered Kashmir and calling for India to release the Indian-administered Kashmir, it will in fact add a state to the Muslim states of the world.

Also, Pakistan can hope for a humane distribution of water from a ‘brother Islamic country’, Kashmir.

If Pakistan gives in, India should not be able refuse it either. The international community would, or should, demand it of India. It is the responsibility of the Pakistani politicians to put forward this proposal to the international community in the best possible colors. Wsalam.
