Asalamo Alykum !
It is great to see the United Nations meet up every year, to discuss peace, development, education and climate. I am sure the UN misses Imran Khan from Pakistan on this one, especially. It is in the interest of United Nations, of course, that each one of its countries is sufficient in resources and rich in human resources who can take forward the agenda of the United Nations’ charter and resolutions.
I wish to draw the attention of the esteemed participants of UNGA80 to this one person, who was an educationist, social worker and an activist, of the highest order. The world pays tribute to the likes of her, Malala Yousuf Zai, Emma Watson and Angelina Jolie. Her name is Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
Dr. Aafia Siddiqui became a victim of post 9/11 Islamophobia, misinformation and propaganda, and today languishes as a mere corpse in America, serving a ridiculous prison sentence of 86 years, announced on the very date of 23rd September back in 2010. The worst form of brain drain that Pakistan can face. The very Islamophobia which Imran Khan talked about and warned about and the United Nations commemorated it as International Day to Combat Islamophobia on 15th March 2022.
Aafia’s cause was campaigned for and politically taken up by Imran Khan, who himself happens to be in jail right now. Ironic, isn’t it ? Why is it so that all revolutionaries are targeted by the status quo ? Of course !
The world is all set now to premiere ‘The Voice of Hind Rajab’, a documentary-film narrating the harrows of the war in Palestine and many prominent people from the showbiz world are joining the launch. However, the question is, could we have done something while Hind Rajab was still alive ?
Can we rescue Dr. Aafia Siddiqui while she is still alive ?
Can we release Imran Khan while he is still alive ?
Can we free Palestine while the Hind Rajabs are still alive ?
The world laments the happenings of World War I and World War II and that is basically why the UN came into existence, right ? The world wonders how the Holocaust could have taken place while a similar Holocaust is happening again today in Palestine ! We read and weep upon the diary of Anne Frank from the 20th century and have kept Aafia Siddiqui buried alive in the 21st century, to write a novel again about in the 22nd century ?
I call upon the United Nations today, to honor the promise it made to the world eighty years ago, and fulfil the purpose that it was created for, to make this world a safer place for all to live. For Palestine, a Ceasefire Declaration is in order, along with effective demarcation of a Two-State Solution at Jerusalem. As for Aafia Siddiqui and Imran Khan, I implore the Assembly to consider a summit directive that calls for their presence and review of their cases before the summit concludes for a glorious summit to the summit.
Let this UNGA80 issue a mandate for justice and act for justice in-session … God bless !
Regards,
